Here is our official thread on picking a home server for the Smoke & Fire at launch! Here are the options: 1. Borlis Pass - This is named after the mission in GW:Prophecies where Prince Rurik is killed. We played on this server for each beta weekend and it's an easy pick to stay here as our home server at launch. 2. Sanctum of Rall - This server is named after a deceased gamer whose story prompted Anet to name a server after him. I support that and think it's quite honorable and wouldn't mind us rolling here as well. You can read the story HERE Note: Due to the nature, publicity, and popularity of this story on sites like Massively and Reddit, it is quite possible that Sanctum of Rall could become an overpopulated server at launch.Happy voting! -logga

Note: I have not voted and will not vote. I want to see what you all pick and not influence it one way or the other. I will vote only if this ends up being a tie.

I saw the Sanctum of Rall story on reddit and thought how awesome it would be to play there. Really happy to see it being considered!

Just my two coppers worth!
I voted and my vote went for "Borlis Pass". I mean I have read the story and it was awesome and it touched my heart. Especially for a game company to do that.
Now think about this...how many other people and/or guilds are thinking the same thing? That they should join that server? Will it become a overpopulated server and have massive queue's to log into? I have belonged to a few guilds who have started on popular servers at launch and had 1-3 hour waits to log in.
However with that being said...I will go where the Guild decides to go. All I ask is really think about your vote.

Voted for Sanctum of Rall. For a game company to name a world/server after someone really is something amazing.
As long as it doesn't become over populated. Would hate to get the message every time I enter a new area that Im transfered to the overflow server.

I know I am new. I changed servers to join this guild. In my humble opinion, if this guild will change servers on a whim as it appears, I have joined the wrong guild. Do as you will, I will not play on the other server. I hope this is NOT a wishy washy guild, but if it is, I wish you all the best.

People playing in the betas weren't all playing on the servers they plan on playing on at head start/launch. That is why we have this poll to see what server/realm/shard we will be rolling on. A lot of guilds arent going to roll on Seas of Sorrows, Sorrows Furance at launch since those were the two overpopulated shards during all 3 betas. This last beta, they took away a lot of the shards from both NA and EU. Also added a few new ones on each, and also switched one NA shard to EU. I'm sure before launch they might send out a final server listing then the one they sent out in April.

No worries Recurve, whatever you feel is best.
Just want to second what Topix said. Now that the beta is over, we will all be forced to choose a new home server at launch. Everything is being wiped and this will be our one and only chance to pick our permanent world. Notice I don't have a poll up there with 5+ servers to choose from, only 2. I want us to make a unified decision as a guild as to which server we'll roll on and thought we'd get that nailed down way in advance so we can communicate this to everyone. That is why Im starting these discussions 1 month before launch. Nothing wishy-washy bout it.
Sidenote: After launch we will NOT be changing worlds! I'm way to cheap to pay Anet a fee for me to move, much less expect everyone to do so. ;D

I have a feeling Rall will be packed with a bunch of people. So I voted for Borlis.

I found two lists of servers various guilds will be going for. I thought this might be a decent indication of relative server population come launch. Both lists seem to suggest that Sanctum of Rall will have a fairly low population if the current trends continue. Hope this helps.

Excellent research guys! By all three counts, it looks like either one of our server choices will be a good choice and not overpopulated!

Sorrow's Furnace will most likely end up dominating WvWvW. Which is something I'm interested in doing once I hit level 80. Although I do like playing at a disadvantage in PVP. I just hope whichever server the guild chooses it's not completely dead.

I just hope whichever server the guild chooses it's not completely dead. They are going to put the servers that are similar in match ups in WvWvW together. So a low pop server isnt going against a high pop server. And after each week, the highest 3 servers play against each other, lowest 3 play against each other etc. "At the end of each battle, every team is given a new ranking. Once a battle ends and team rankings are updated, servers are matched up based on their new ranking and a new battle commences. Downtime between these epic battles lasts only a few minutes—just long enough for us to tally the final scores, update the server rankings, and create new matches—so there’s almost always a battle for the Mists going on." - Mike Ferguson

I agree with piccolo. I think the last thing we all want is to be on a dead server for PVE, but also stuck on a undermanned server for WvWvW. With all the cool random events going on, I think we should go to a popular one I know we can switch for the first 24 hours for free, but does that also include the first three day head start?

I'm not sure on the 24hour deal.
I have no doubt that neither Borlis or Rall will be dead. For what it's worth, I found Borlis Pass to be very active and got put on overflow several times. The good news is that the overhauled overflow system worked very well!
If anything, I think those linked documents will just be a good indication of the servers that could possibly become overpopulated at launch.
Either Borlis Pass or Sanctum of Rall will be a fine choice for us to call home, no doubt.

Got to also think that over time people may leave the game and go back to their old MMOs. Happens in all the new MMOs I have played. Many people will be playing for about a month, then people slowly start to leave.

I'll be honest and say that I'm a bit bummed that they chose the home server route. Which I see why they did because of their emphasis on WvW and the game now being a truly persistent world. But I really liked the old "District" system.
I was always keen on the fact that you could play with anyone that had GW1 and not have to worry what server you were both on. Though technically the districts were servers but you were allowed to switch around on the fly. That was awesome.
Truly persistent worlds change everything I suppose...
