So... Im deep in GW2 withdrawals... happens after each beta. Nothing can satisfy me 'cept GW2 and I can't have it... At least we can talk about it !!! What race / profession are you most excited about and plan to roll on launch as your main?I'm rolling a human ranger. I love rangers and my main character in GW1 is the same, so I intend on carrying on his legacy. Farran Oakwood is his name but I plan on changing names as I've never been partial to it. I loved the diversity of the ranger class in GW1 (trapper, interrupt ranger, touch, etc) and by what I've seen in GW2, though not the same, rangers are still a very diverse class. I've always liked archery in fantasy games as well so I tend to gravitate to this kind of class. That said, I've been obsessing over his name over the last month or so. I've never obsessed over names in games like this and often I am quite easy going about such things. But... for some reason I have quite the attachment to my characters in GW1 and am very invested in the story and lore. Because of that, I want the perfect meaningful name for my main. It's quite silly really. My wife laughs about it and said the only reason she hasn't ratted me out on Facebook in regards to searching name meanings on baby name webisites is that it'll make her look bad! hahaha ;D How does Stanley Stringfella sound !? j/k

After some thought, my first character will most likely be an Asura Ranger. I also played a Ranger in GW1 and enjoyed them. My second character will either be a Necromancer or Guardian. As for the other professions, I didn't really find any of them to be my style.
As for names, I really want the name Piccolo. Although since names are not based on per server but every server, I have a very small chance at getting the name. Someone actually took it in the last beta event. I was very sad guy. I know we can put a last name, but I'm so used to just having one name. What would go with Piccolo as a last name if I can't get just "Piccolo"?
Piccolo Flute actually just came to mind. lol

I decided a back after the professions were announced what classes and races I would be playing. Been planning it out for months. And my first is going to be a human thief named Zypher Wynn. Zypher is a character I create in ever MMO and RP I have ever played for the past 18 years. There is a lot of history with me and the character already. I even have a back story for RPers I encounter which explains that Zypher is a man who is lost in realities. Thus the same Zypher Wynn who I played in Prophecies is the same Zypher Wynn I am playing in GW2.

My main will be an Asura Necromancer. Crafting skills will be Tailor/Artificer. And ill be using a Scepter/Focus (Maybe Dagger, but Focus skills have some defensive abilities which is nice) and a Staff.

Dang, as stated in another post I am still undecided as to who will be my main. I am down to ....
Asura Engineer, named "Fingers the Tinker". Norn Ranger, named "Ashnak" or "Ashnak Bytes".
As to crafting, one would be Leatherworker as both wear medium armor and the last one is Huntsman to make weapons again for either one.
Then a Guardian, Elementalist and Thief last. That's if we would still have 5 toon slots at launch.

Oh man, I haven't even thought about crafting! I barely played with it at all so I'll have to pick that at launch.
I like the Fingers the Tinker name!

my 5 chars will be: Asura Ranger Asura Thief Asura or Charr Elementalist Charr Engineer Norn Warrior

I will likely be an Asura engineer or a Human thief....I normally play a rogue/thief in all MMO's, RPG or PnP I play, but during this last beta I kind of enjoyed playing the Asura engineer.
As for profs, not sure yet, I normally tend to pick up gathering skills at first to increase cash flow....

I noticed that nobody has mentioned the Sylvari yet haha.. I kind of fell in love with them as soon as i saw the concept art on them and most certainly did not squee like a little girl when i saw that they would be available in bwe3 ... My first character will be a Sylvari Elementalist, followed by a Sylvari Necro, followed thereafter by a Sylvari Mesmer... My character name will be Jeraud something or another... I have used that name for 8 years in mmo's so i calls it lol... As for crafting i loved the feel of things and will be rolling a tailor and either artificer or jeweler since im sure artificer will be pretty common... I really look forward to playing with you guys and gals in august

In every game my main has been a human (male) Crowfl healer, since GW doesn't have a real healer class I am not sure what profession I will choose yet? I will also make an asura necro(female), Kara Kake. Also a ranger not sure what race or gender, but name is Redcrowfl.

Well my first GW1 character technically was a warrior (back in the E3 free play session), but then when I started playing the beta weekends for GW1 I gave the necro a try and LOVED it. It was my character of choice for every beta weekend and the first toon I played when the game came out. So i gave it a shot during the GW2 beta weekends and loved it as well. The only problem is what race to be. I like them all (except the charr are funny looking when they run...that bugs me). Thinking about going human or norn with the necro then giving the asura a try with a elementalist and the sylvari as a mesmer (had a blast playing that one this past beta weekend).

Right on! We are definitely spoiled for choice with GW2 right!? As alts, my first will be a Norn Warrior named Thad Tharbad. I did not like the warrior class at first but it clicked during the 2nd to last beta and I got a good feel for how to play the melee class. In essence, melee classes have to get good at interrupting enemy actions (using stuns, knockbacks, dazes, etc) to survive up close. Also knowing when NOT to waste a dodge is vital. After that I will likely roll my twin sisters from GW1, Serah and Terah Moon as a human Thief / Mesmer combo. Asuran Ele is another alt that I want... but jeez, that's 5 slots !? I also want to play a Guardian and Necro too !!! Looks like I'll be trying to earn in game gold to trade for gems to buy slots!

At the moment (this could change at any time up to and even after launch) I'm leaning towards Asura Elementalist. It's kind of funny, too, since my main character in WoW for like 4 out of 5 years has been a Mage (and a Gnome for 3 of those years). I think I might have a soft spot for short, highly intelligent, silly wizard-types.
I was/am also considering Necromancer and Ranger. From what I've been able to play of it I don't quite like Necromancer in GW2 as much as I did in GW1, but it's still a fun class to play. Rangers feel very versatile. I like being able to have a melee weapon to get up close but then being able to switch to a bow. Also, I enjoyed the ability to quick swap pets.
Whether I pick elementalist first or not, Necro and Ranger will definitely be my main picks for alts. I'd probably do a Sylvari Ranger, but I'm not entirely sure which race I'd pick for Necromancer.

Why are there so many choices. As soon as I complete a character build online, another race/profession grabs my attention! I have want a versatile DPS/support type character in medium or heavy armor. What do you guys think?

Bishop96 from what ive seen your best bet for support/dps would be either engineer or guardian. one has heavy armor the other has light, one is strictly ranged the other is mostly melee (but is pretty good at range) As for me I am undecided weather to make my main a Charr warrior or a Norn engineer... I immensely enjoyed both classes and races in the last 2 betas i was able to play. I think Im leaning more towards the warrior because of the large variety of weapons they are able to use and their ability to control the battle better than most other classes. As for my alt it will most likely be a sylvari thief I am SOOOOO looking forward to release and playing with you guys and making some friends

I plan to be a Norn engineer. I love the art design for the Norn area and the personality of the race. And as I swelter in the hot Georgia sun I find the land of snow very refreshing!
The engineer appeals to me because it is so different from traditional classes and so flexible. And I like blowing things up....

You hit the nail on the head. I've played as both engineer and guardian during the betas. My asura engineer and charr guardian were fun.
Having said that, I will definitely have an elementalist alt at some point. They're skill set looks so versatile.

Elementalist is fun, too! I loved how your skills changed when you changed your weapon/element combination. And you get to blow things up, too!

My dilemma since i first checked them out has been between the hunter and the thief....my wonderful boyfriend (who i met playing lotro) has now given me the perfect solution! Create my norn hunter to lvl when i'm home while he's still working, and create my thief to lvl with him since he's now broken down and agreed to try the game! and since I love alts....i'm sure I will have more at some point - but these 2 first oh yeah...and i've also spent many hours researching names on all kind of lore sites and name sites. I have several in mind - I hope i will be able to get them
