Just wondering If there are any other guildies into metal? I like all types of music but 95% of the time its metal. Love old thrash like Overkill and Vio-lence. I'm a pretty big fan of Lamb of God and Amon Amarth.

I'm a pretty big fan of Lamb of God and Amon Amarth. My music tastes are eclectic, and include metal. My favorite metal bands are Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Darkest Hour, Dragonforce, and Killswitch Engage.

I'm a huge Maiden fan and listened to plenty of Metallica back in the day. I love heavy metal and Power Metal, Dragonforce is a pretty wicked band (also on my mp3 player). I used to listed to Deicide, Morbid Angel, Entombed, Gorguts, etc but I guess I grew out of it.
Now I like Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius to name a few. As mentioned in another thread, I listen to pretty much anything, but again...Maiden rules all!

I had my metal phase, and will listen to most anything. But I have to admit, the faster and louder it goes, the more I dig it. So, that being said...I'm a quasi-metal head, if that metal is Death Metal. lol. Obituary is, and has been for years, my favorite band.

Yeah Obituary was also something I really enjoyed, I just cant listen to those bands as much anymore.

I have the same problem here Willard, however, the limited listening has to do with the significant other and the 8 month old. lol

When I'm looking to get pumped, I'll usually play Run to the Hills. One of my favorite songs by Maiden. That and Aces High.

I like all genres of music, I'm mainly a hip-hopper, but I've been trying to penetrate my music tastes into metal for a while. I like really drawn out, slow, sludgy metal. Like this.
Can anyone recommend me some metal? I've tried a lot of different metal, but a lot of the more mainstream stuff like slipknot, stone sour, and a lot of others just aren't my cup of tea. Anyone have anything really interesting or unique for me to listen to? I want to listen to the genre more, but I don't know anything about it.

To be honest Metal is quite a personal aquired taste as there are many variations. The reason why I like Maiden is mainly because Dickinson is like a story teller and all his songs are his stories. Kamelot is another band which has many similarities to Iron Maiden, altough not as instrumental. If you are into The Forgotten Realm type stories then Kamelot may be for you. I also like Judas Priest a lot back in the day...its heavy...got good speed to it and the singer's voice is quite something.
If you are looking for something on the lighter side, probably the best album released last year was Slash's album. He released a 2nd one this year but I prefer his first one as there are many artists collaborating with him on the album.
Other music like Tool, The Perfect Circle, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains are decent, more on the alternative heavyu metal side of this. Good music though
Anyhow, hope this is of some help. When I figure out how to upload vids/pics on the site ill put up a few.

I listen to a lot of the rock/metal spectrum; from Pearl Jam and Paramore to Tool and A7X on the rock end of things and bands like As I lay Dying, Chimaira, and Primer 55 on the metal end.
Lately, thanks to youtube, amazon, and spotify, I have discovered the Symphonic Metal genre from Europe and have slowly built up a collection of albums from bands like Epica, Nemesea, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Krypteria, Delian, etc. All female-fronted, varied, intricate, heavy. To me, it's complex music that takes time to compose and talent to play, and I don't know why but the symphonic and operatic elements just seem to work with the heavy music.
An example from Epica's latest release:
Just yesterday I picked up the new album from In this Moment, after hearing "Blood" on the radio.

I'm a big fan of In Flames and Sonic Syndicate. I recently started listening to Insomnium and can't quite get enough of them now.
