Had to say it three times to account for the clones and phantasms. ;D
I tried a few of the professions in the one beta I managed to join. This class was unlike any other I have played before and I am hooked. Starting a thread to shout out to my fellow mesmers.
During the beta I spent some time in the pvp prep area playing against the npcs there to get a feel for the glass with all of the skills and powers unlocked. The two approaches I found viable went around quickly building clones/phantasms and shattering them and another with keeping the clones up.
I really preferred the latter style. Still undecided on what weapons to use. While the great sword had decent damage, I really liked a lot of the other weapons controlling abilities. Doing some leveling in the beta I found the sword and warhorn a great mix. With some effort I was able to solo some of the gold circle creatures even if they were a level or two above me.
Try to catch me if you can! [Shatter]

I liked using the staff for AoE buffs and conditional damage. (The utility spell, Radiation Field was good for this, too.) I used scepter and pistol when I was focusing on one enemy. Underwater combat was good on mesmer. I prefered trident to the spear.

I liked the skills of the staff i think as much as anything, however there is something awesome about seeing a caster wielding a 2h greatsword.

This is definitely going to be my main profession! I tried most of the other professions and they were enjoyable in their own right, but as soon as I started playing the mesmer I was hooked! Going to be playing staff for AoE and buffs, and probably sword and torch as my alt. But who knows, that all could change in time/later game play style.

Sylvari mesmer REPRESENT! I love the cloning and shattering mechanics, and the sheer unique-ness of the class is what inspired me to make it my main profession. I had a chance to play with a scepter with an off-hand catalyst, a scepter with an off-hand torch, and a staff. Scepter with the catalyst had some really cool utility spells like the ability to summon a line on the ground that buffs the speed of friendlies who cross it and slows the speed of enemies who step over it. I can see this as being really useful for making retreats of any kind. Scepter and torch had a particularly awesome ability that allowed me to dissapear into thin air for a few seconds, reappearing in a flaming explosion that did damage to the enemies around me. Still, my favorite of the 3 I tried was the staff because of the buffs I could give my teammates and the debuffs I could give my enemies. Creating an AoE field that debuffed enemies and buffed friendlies seemed like a great fit for duels between melee characters on the battlefield. Still, there were a lot of things that I didn't have the privilege of trying. Sadly, I was not able to get my hands on a greatsword or pistol as I wanted to, and I never had a chance to try out the underwater combat. I suppose those things are just things I'll have to try out when the game goes live. Mesmers forever!

At first, mesmer was one of the classes that I wasn't excited about at all. Then I watched some YouTube videos of it, and just from the videos, I could tell it was a class I would heavily enjoy. Confusing your enemies while buffing your allies and debuffing your foes sounds and looks awesome. Unfortunately I never got to try one out, but this will definitely be my main profession come launch.
Plus using a greatsword to shoot stuff out of is just cool.

I see you've chosen Sylvari as your race as well. That means you're officially one of the coolest people in the guild. You'll love it when you do get to try it, each weapon has a different feeling and having a wide variety of different types of clones to choose from is great. If you're interested in buffing and debuffing while allowing your minions to do a lot of the work I recommend trying the staff . It features a projectile spell that buffs friends and debuffs enemies, bouncing between the two at random. It also has an AoE that creates a field of buffing/debuffing. it's a bundle of fun!

I'll be playing a Mesmer as well, although it seems a slightly different build than everyone else here. I'll be running a glass cannon greatsword + sword/pistol. During the last stress test I was still perfecting it (PvP), but it seems like it is going to be a pretty nasty toon.

I will have an Asura Mesmer as main. More than likely using two handed sword then maybe scepter/pistol or at least that is the plan. i watched a video of a dungeon that had 3 mesmers in it and they did quite well along with a char engineer and a ranger. I really have no idea how to play mesmer and have heard it is one of the hardest to learn to play well but i think it will be fun.

The challenge is something I've heard about, but I think that it's worth mastering a strange gameplay style in order to play one of the most unique classes in the game with a totally awesome mechanic. Learning when to summon clones and when to shatter them and how is going to be a challenge for me, though.

if the clones can only do minor damage but do great damage when they explode then maybe a macro to send them in may be in order? Just saying to maximize damage for Mesmer. There is one ability they show in the trailer that i have not seen in gameplay and that was the teleportal ability. Throw down to points and able to teleport between them. Any ideas if they nixed it for some odd reason?

if the clones can only do minor damage but do great damage when they explode then maybe a macro... No need to macro. It is the 4 class buttons, F1 - F4 by default if you don't remap. When pressed all bee line for the target (even if stealthed!) and shatter. Different effects by choice of power. The damage one (F2 I think) is ok. The really cool one is distortion. There is one ability they show in the trailer that i have not seen in gameplay and that was the teleportal ability. Throw down to points and able to teleport between them. Any ideas if they nixed it for some odd reason? It is still in the game. You just need to have the staff to use it. wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_mesmer_skills

During yesterday's stress test, I used a staff and switched to a sword and pistol. I was able to take down groups of about five by myself by putting down Chaos Storm around me, putting Chaos Armor on, laying down Radiation Field, switching to sword and casting Blurred Frenzy. If they weren't dead by then I would wait for the conditions to get to them or summon up clones and phantasmals and shatter them. Definitely having a mesmer as an alt.

Nice that you were able to solo 5v1. You've inspired me to roll a Mesmer alt, theactualkarly. Gonna name him Xerox (I called it first, so don't anyone go stealing mah name!)

I tried one out in yesterday's stress test and I am hooked on it. Not as much as a thief but enough to know I plan to roll a mesmer.

I tried giving the Mesmer a go yesterday. Unfortunately, I couldn't really get into it. I'll try again sooner or later, but until then, Loremaster Slovo will remain an Elementalist.

I couldn't get it the first time either but I made myself try it again and really loved it but, elementalist will always be the best class.
