This is a great video that can help you appreciate the intricacies of GW2's combat complexity. Much like in GW, success is knowing your skills and when to use them properly in battle and not waste them. Interrupting (Daze, knockback, knockdowns, etc.) skills and actions can totally turn the tide in a 1 on 1 match. Dodging is another new system that new pvp'ers will need to master as well.
I loved pvp in GW1 and haven't done much at all in 2 yet but look forward to waging some war!

I've seen this video before, and I thought it did a pretty good job of summarizing how GW2 PvP is different from that of a traditional MMO. I feel like the lack of enemy cast bars and reliance on seeing an enemy's animations makes the game feel more like playing a fighting game like Soul Calibur and less like playing the usual MMO PvP. It makes structures PvP and WvWvW sound like a blast to me. I played a bit of WvWvW this recent stress test, I haven't had that much fun in ages. Having a persistent world PvP battleground is great, and the fact that players are drawn by server rather than faction means that there won't be any frustrations with the more popular faction always participating more than the underdogs. (There was a big frustration with world PvP in SWTOR because only one side on my server participated in the world PvP planet.)
PvP in GW2 is looking to be a blast. This isn't like my experiences in WoW in which I just use the PveE and throw the rest of the content away; I'm probably going to enjoy every feature in the game. Expect to see me making a lot of groups for WvWvW once the game hits live. It's such a fun way to get a bit of EXP.
I'm looking forward to killing anyone who isn't from Borlis pass with all of my guild mates!

I, like you, cannot wait for this! I haven't done much PvP in other games (Rift, SWTOR, TSW, etc.) but with GW2 it looks like too much fun to pass up! I will be rolling a Mesmer like Dano and can't wait to frustrate the other team beyond belief!

I will be rolling a Mesmer like Dano and can't wait to frustrate the other team beyond belief! Mesmer PvP is a blast. You get a lot of time to wail on the enemies because your illusions can basically act as backup. I found in WvWvW that a lot of times all of my clones were destroyed before people starting moving on to me. In addition to this, mesmers with an offhand torch get to dissapear momentarily and reappear in an explosion of flames, great for evading damage. Getting downed and throwing up downed clones of yourself to fool the enemy as to who they need to finish off is awesome as well. Some of the mesmer's skills work great for team play, too. The staff memser has an AoE spell that simultaneously buffs friends within it and debuffs enemies. Throwing that AoE into a clump of friends and foes locked in melee combat really turns the tides. A mesmer with a focus can throw up a line that slows enemies and speeds up friendlies, great for retreating (or charging into battle.) Yeah, mesmer PvP is some of the most fun I've had fighting others in an MMO period. Well, actually, it's the MOST fun I've ever had in MMO PvP. It hasn't been topped. You'll love it.

I was really indecisive as what to roll. I tried the thief, guardian, ranger, and warrior; however, once I tried the mesmer I was hooked. I had a blast playing right away, it just felt comfortable and fit me well.

I'll tell you right now that Mesmer's in GW1 pvp straight owned . They were the best class for interrupts. They could straight shut down a monk like no one's business!

I love the timing and waiting with an interrupt mesmer and the simple satisfaction that the person you interrupted is aggravated about it. Whenever I would be about to give the finishing blow to someone a mesmer (or ranger) would mess it all up.

Yah, my favorite build was my interrupt ranger with a composite bow for crippling moving targets with a longer distance and a shortbow for interrupts
