Yah, that's insane... $211 for an item!? Wow...
D3 is weird beast. Like I mentioned, it has glimpses of greatness. I love the combat and destruction, the hordes of enemies getting decimated, etc. I also like the skill system they are using vs a tree. However, the things I enjoy are overshadowed by being forced to use the AH to progress through the game at higher difficulties.
You have little to no hope of finding all of your equipment through drops while playing the game normally. I've been trying to force myself not to use the AH, but here I am level 51 on my barb, I'm about to finish Nightmare difficulty and all of my armor / weapons are for characters level 35-42... Last night I found 4 golds and they ranged from character levels 33-41... Really? Nothing even close to my level. My current chest piece armor is 222 and its a lvl 42 piece. I scanned the AH for lvl 51 gear and the chestpiece's are at 382 armor... Now, how come I can't buy that off of a vendor in the game or better yet, how come it doesn't just drop for me? That's frustrating.

they actually paid $250 for the item. $211 is what's left after blizzard takes their cut. either way, it's fucking insane for a stupid digital item that may very well be replaced later on. if i search around enough, i could buy a yugo sks m59/66 for around that price, and i'll at least have that rifle in my physical possession, or i could buy a 500rd box of russian made .223 ammo.
just wait until blizzard begins to sell their digital gear for those who want to remain competitive in the more demanding difficulty levels. ever since activision became apart of them, money has been their ultimate goal. it's all about greed with activision-blizzard. torchlight II is much more appealing.

At higher levels it isn't even worth trying to craft your own gear. Once you get the mats you still have to pay 5-7k gold to make the item. and if it has the wrong stats you have to do it again till you get what you want. OR you can keep your mats in your bank, and spend 5-7k on an item in the AH with the stats you want. And I'm sure it will only get worse as you get higher in level.

That is crazy you can actually make real money off the AH though. I may try and put some crap on there just for the heck of it... On a bigger note, this news is going to put a major kink in Blizz's masterplan. Korea is banning the online sale of virtual items... Korea is without a doubt the biggest market that thrives on these kinds of transactions. No doubt that Blizz saw $$ in their eyes when imagining how ludicrous the RMAH would fare in Korea... massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/15/south-korea-to-make-virtual-item-trade-bots-illegal/

money made in the RMAH cannot be cashed out. it's still fucking stupid, though. i hate the whole RMT idea.

YAY new patch, Jewelcrafting is MUCH MUCH cheaper!!!! only requires 2 gems to upgrade to next level and costs less too!! Blacksmithing seems to be cheaper too. the lvl 40-50 stuff was costing around 5k to make (which was easier to spend that on the ah and get exactly what i wanted) and it is now around 1-2k!

I just saw this news! BIG BIG Changes to drop rates and everything! Let me know you're extended impressions of how 1.0.3. Here are extended patch notes: us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/6457499/Patch_103_Now_Available-6_19_2012#blogAnd Vance, Blizz's intent for D3 IS to allow you to cash out your money on RMAH. "if a PayPal™ account is linked to your Battle.net account and you’ve enabled Battle.net SMS Protect on your Battle.net account (see below), you can have the proceeds sent to your PayPal account (a 15% transfer fee applies if you choose this method, calculated based on the amount being transferred)" Now, they take more of a cut doing this, but I don't see where that matters as people will be generating money out of thin air so to speak...

Krater looks unique.
I don't know about the drops in the new patch yet as I spent last night finishing up the items i needed and then going to the secret level.

Believe me, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Though I have enjoyed D3 quite a bit. I'll prolly pick up Torchlight 2 as well. I'm looking forward to playing it with my son. I just built up a 2nd pc for my kids for us to co-op with. Currently, the flava of the month is Minecraft. In addition to T2, you should check out Path of Exile. Now another one that is a ways off but set to be really good is Grim Dawn which is from some of the former Titan Quest devs. Can't wait to try out D3 w the new patch with ya Morg... And secret level!? What trickery is this?

i've been watching PoE for over a year now.
i've been having a video issue lately. it's a 50-50 chance that the video card recovers after crashing. i've tried all kinds of "fixes" and nothing is working. methinks it's my video card sputtering to a slow, painful end. it's a gaming laptop that is going on 5 years old. this baby is equipped with a nvidia geforce 9700M GTS 512mb card. if i didn't have to save up for my trip to london in december, i'd go out and buy the lastest toshiba qosmio gaming laptop they have. i have a qosmio x305 with dual 200gb hard-drives. this one has served me rather well over the years.
would you happen to know of a permanent fix for the issue i'm having? i'm sure you know of it. i know radeon cards have the same issue, but under a different crash and recovery name.

So apparently lvl 60 is the level cap. Hit it last night as i was going through act 3 on Hell mode. Good thing is after hitting 60 when you kill an elite you get a 30 min buff that increases your magic and gold find. Killing another elite refreshes the buff and adds another stack. It stacks up to 5 times (with the little bit of % chance i had already it was over 102% with 5 stacks). Starting getting gold drops from every elite i killed.

Blizzard made a new dev blog post detailing out the changes coming in the 1.0.4 patch. If it's not released before August 25th then I care not as it will go unnoticed... eu.battle.net/d3/en/blog/5617583
