All, We are using C3 for our guild's voice chat. This is an excellent, free voice chat client that allows us to have our own channels without actually hosting a server. It is feature rich with lots of options to play around with and tweak. To Connect:1. Download the client here: www.downloadc3.com/communicate/Note: Downloading the client will also walk you through creating a C3 account2. Open C3 and under the Channels Tab, search for "smoke" and select the Smoke & Fire Guild. Then click on Join Channel. Here are some various tips on using C31. Using the Favorites Tab under Channels, you can join a sub-channel by clicking on the arrow button to the right of Smoke and Fire Guild to drop down a sub-channel list. Then use the arrows on the left to view the sub-channels 2. You can also use the Clan Tree Tab under Channels to browse and join sub-channels. 3. If you want to hear who and when a user joins or leaves a channel, use the Text To Speech options under Settings. 4. Each channel supports text chat as well, so this is a very useful tool for everyone to stay in touch while in or out of the game. As more things pop up, I'll continue to update this thread. -logga

Thanks for the tips, Logga. I hadn't noticed the text to speech option.
Does everyone have the capability to create a subchannel? I'm thinking with the number of guildies we have things might get chaotic without several subchannels for groups that might be playing in different areas.

Also, when the smoke & fire guild chat is up on one's screen, you can go next to the names of the people in the channel and indivually adjust everyone's volume, allowing you to amplify those who are too soft-spoken and turn down the people who are coming in too loud on your microphone. It's a pretty useful feature that's pretty simple.

I noticed it there last night and like that idea as well! I'm unsure on how to grant moderator access, etc etc on there but will research it!

Logga my only other suggestion is if and when you ever do find out how to password this channel so it is a guild thing only. You may want to create a 4th channel for you and the officers to meet and discuss guild options or whatever once or twice a month. I really think this is pretty neat free option and it is only a BETA.

I'll work on that when I get some time.

Note that our channel is now password protected. See the OP for the password.

Logga, what do you think about creating separate C3 subchannels for launch day for each of the five races? This would allow guildies in the same starter areas to talk to each other, without it being absolute chaos having everyone in the same channel.
Also, does everyone in the guild have the ability to create subchannels, or just the administrator?

Also, does everyone in the guild have the ability to create subchannels, or just the administrator? Great Idea! I'll work on that today! Permissions for subchannel creation is only for moderators. I need to give some permissions in that department. I am also working on a thread detailing who will be our officers when the game launches and how we'll divvy up such permissions.

Well it would seem that I had a bad installation. Something got corrupted during the installation. I was at the end of my rope...when I finally decided to make another account and download/install/repair of the client. Well she worked.
I did get on last night to test and lets see Logga, pottedfern, Slovo and I think phoenixhsv was on at the time. Well I found out my mic doesn't work...sorry guys why the silence. Need to pick up a new headset today after work.
Boy, when it rains it pours sometimes!

As someone who keeps having to deal with issue after issue after issue with C3 I really REALLY would like to see us as members have something else to use. I would seriously prefer ventrillo. however at this point I would use team speak or mumble. I have grown to seriously dislike C3 and hope we use something else soon, as not being heard for hours, or having it glitch out to where it will go from press to talk to voice induced is seriously annoying. An I would definitely like a re vote for current membership.

There never was a vote to use C3. I made that decision because it's hosted and free. I've got a lot going on in my life at the moment and I don't have the time to devote to hosting a vent or teamspeak server. I really hate it that you are having so many problems with C3 and I wish there was something I could do to help. There definitely are some quirks with C3, but I'm just not in a spot to pay or host my own alternative at the moment.
If someone else wants to put the effort in, feel free to give us some options. That said, I really don't want to get into asking guildies to have to donate. That's not what we're about.

I am sorry you are having issues, but what you described (except for not being able to keep a mouse button bound to push-to-talk) are issues that i've had or known guildies to have in Ventrillo too. It seems that someone will always have issues with whatever is used (conflict in programs? i dunno). But if it is a major issue and others are having the same issues I'd like to know. Are your issues still occuring? You seemed to be doing okay today.

All, we had an officers meeting last night and decided that we will investigate hosting our own Vent server (hosting, as in private hosting, no cost to guildies) but it will likely be 3 weeks out before we have any news in this area.
We also want to know who is having show-stopping issues (can't talk, can't hear, etc) with C3 so we are going to put a poll up to gather this information soon!

That is great news, and I know that going free is a better option for all of us with wife, and kids, or just better things to do with money . However as check to check as Nancy an I am I would GLADLY give 30.00 a year at one lump sum time to help cover the cost for vent. However if C3 is what we wind up using I will have to deal with it, I will just hate it until we use mumble, or team speak, or we have members WILLING to donate so a 50 man vent can be baught for a year. No my options have not gotten remotely better and it really just is annoying to want to hang and bond with other guildies to then have mic not work as you play, or to have a clearly labeled push to talk then just broadcast any sound and me have no recourse but to stop using C3 which I hope does not have to happen. I want to personally thank you both for talking about this with officers and both of you addressing it. I will not be playing tomorrow with so many new players crashing and lagging the server so I am going to download C3 for the 3rd time tomorrow. again my thanks to you both .
