Hey peeps - post the things you have learned that will make your gaming experience easier and more fun!
1. dont be afraid to swap weapons mid-fight - this is a lifesaver on the thief, swapping between melee daggers and shortbow lets me finish fights i cant do with 1 weapon alone (cause i tried - lol)
2. You can sticky targets in the options section so they dont jump around til you tab or kill it
3. you can turn on a cool down timer which will show you the numbers in seconds til your skill is up again.
4. SAVE blue and green items to be combo'd in the mystic forge in lion's arch- the items your get are pretty sweet!

Excellent!
- Under General Options, I turned on the Promote Skill Target setting which locks the target of an activated skill. Makes combat much easier for me.
- To group with people in overflow servers, right-click on their name and select Join In Game to get put in their Overflow (you have to be on the same map to do this).
- Right-click on items in your inven and select Deposit Collectible while at the bank to quickly put stackables in your material storage pane.
- You can access your bank storage at any crafting station! Very useful! For example, you can find crafters out in the world, like in Claypool in Queensdale!
- You can click on the map to place a Personal Waypoint that shows up on every person's map who's in your party.

You can hold ALT and drag an item to another slot in your bag to split stacks of items.

Nice! I like that sticky targeting one, Jade. - You can Shift+click (IIRC) to draw a line on the map that everyone in your party can see. It goes away quickly, though. - Weapon swapping. Weapon swapping, weapon swapping. This has been incredibly useful on my mesmer. - Personal preference, I turned off post processing effects in the options menu because I didn't like the weird blurry/soft glowy effect on everything, and I got a nice FPS boost of about 10. - Don't forget that you have to buy a book in order to start placing traits at level 11 It's 10 silver. - You can turn off auto-attack by CTRL+right-clicking on your current auto-attack, or switch it to another skill by CTRL+right-clicking on the skill. Turning it off is useful because sometimes you'll want to use a skill and it won't take because auto-attack takes over. - You can disable "double tap directional key to dodge." I recommend this, because it prevents accidental dodges, reserving your stamina for when you need it. Or when you're at the top of a jumping puzzle - To get to Lion's Arch quickly the first time, after you're out of the tutorial, press B(default) to go to World vs World and take the Asura gate to Lion's Arch. - Craft. So far, I have been able to make better equipment than I can find in the world. Of course, I'm only level 13. - You can disable showing your helmet or shoulders by bringing up your hero panel (H by default) and unchecking the checkbox by the respective item slot. - Do your daily achievements for nice experience boosts. These can by found by bringing up your hero panel, and on the left side there are icons. Click the icon that looks like ArenaNet's logo, and you will be able to see all of the different achievements there. - Always remember to just enjoy the game. Take it slow (unless power-leveling is what you really enjoy, then go for it), but don't just power-level because you think you have to. Hopefully these tips helped people. Some are simple, some aren't. I'd think of more but I'm at work and should be...working...I guess.

Helpful stuff! I need to dig into the options and check out the target settings Jade and Logga mentioned.
I don't have much to add at this point, but found that by level 10 when you can craft you have likely accumulated a fair amount of materials from playing the game (drops and harvesting). I was able to jump right in and craft two 8-slot leather bags and a number of bits of jewelry.
Also with regards to crafting, while you will likely want to focus on the trades that make the most sense for your profession, you'll still get good exp by dabbling in at least the low levels of all the trades. You don't have to use all the stuff you make; you can try to sell it through Black Lion (when it comes back), sell it to a merchant, or salvage it and get some materials back.
Your bank has what appears to be a common storage area (I think?) which would be a good place to stash that item that your current toon can't use but an alt can.
I'll also second what Akires said about going slow. Something as simple as stopping and watching/listening to the npc's in Divinity's Reach ads a lot of character to the game.
Also, find a good set of controls if the default aren't working for you- which I think is probably true for a lot of people, and is something I am just starting to realize.

One thing I'm wondering is I don't think I've seen one guildy in the game, or I might have and couldn't tell. Do fellow guild members appear/labeled any differently than any other player? I'm scaling the Norn path so maybe there just arn't that many folks there.

Nice, orion. Those are really useful. Here is a list of all the emotes your character can do. Not really helpful (unless you're RPing), but fun nonetheless. There are also ways to emote at someone and use your character name for a custom emote. wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Emote

from that link, this is awesome!
"Jhonz0r on Reddit pointed out that there is a keybind to turn your character around. You can bind something like C to that skill and then use Feigned Escape as a 2nd blink ability (press C, press 2 and then press C again)."
Also, in regards to Crafting material gathering - cloth specifically, is there a way other than salvaging items to get this resource? I've resolved to stop crafting anything for a while because it seems so difficult to collect resources that don't come from a tree or ore vein, but was curious if i was doing something wrong.

They come from bags that drop off humanoid mobs also. If you get to a low level zone and just farm whatever humanoids are in that area, you'll get bags and items to salvage for cloth.

yes - the bags that drop off bandits and centaurs yield alot of cloth when opened. that seems to be the best resource to get those materials.
also while crafting - make sure to try new recipe combinations as that looks like (for me) to be the best way past that middle slump where you still need crafting points to hit the next level

coolness, thanks! Yeah, I dropped Jewling for Tailoring, and instead of repeatedly making the yellow stuff, I made a ton of insignias, and went through each type of armor discovering the variants. Got a ton of skill levels and XP! I've discovered all I can scepter/staff wise with Artificier atm, and need to discover potions until 50. Realized stockpiling materials is the way to go This may be a noob tip... but i didnt know until yesterday: You don't have to stand on a way point to teleport places... you can just open the map and quick travel to any way point at any time. also: Click the Gear Icon on your inventory UI and "Deposit All..." OMG!

Not a full-on tip but maybe a suggestion, but if you're Norn, do yourself a favor and go to another 1-15 zone. I swear I've gotten more useful crafting items, and items in general by hitting other zones. Didn't want to progress further through the 15-25 snowy zone, so i went exploring! Lion's Arch is sweet, and the Cat people zone is awesome.

It was suggested we make sure everyone with a ranger knew about the skill, "Search and Rescue" This is a must have if you are in a group of any kind where there's going to be any/a lot of potential death. Basically you send your pet to go in and revive a downed player, this works well when you need to keep a boss busy but need to revive someone also
