My friend built it for me. Intel i7 920 8 gb ram Nvidia 560 xi 1gb 160gb ssd With a 23 inch 1080 Samsung 2ms resp led monitor. Ready for Friday night Got a Wei score of 7.4 Awesome! I build my own pc's as well. Haven't bought a namebrand pc (dell, hp, etc.) in over 13 years. I just built an almost identical rig to this except its an i5 2500k overclocked. That said, now that the 660ti's are out, I am probably going to be looking to sell my 560ti EVGA superclocked card for $150 and upgrade...

Was playing WvW during the stress test today. There must have a been an 80 on 80 battle going on at our keep with no lag. Was running around with some 40 man guild who looked liked they worked for A-Net the way they were playing. Loved it.

I can confirm ralimar's enthusiasm for this game during a brief chat on C3. He may sound like a truck driver from south Dakota, but he was a giddy as a kid on Christmas.

So I played the GW2 beta yesterday for 3 hours, and had an absolute blast. The game somehow managed to surpass even my already high expectations.
In no particular order, here are my thoughts and observations:
Character creation --------------------------------------- I tried the trick of skipping straight to the end of character creation, naming it, deleting the character, then recreating him, in order to lock-in the name. The trick worked flawlessly, and I will be using in on launch day to immediately reserve the names for all five of my toons (yes, I am an Altoholic!) before going back and creating my first one in detail. Note that the system will allow you to reserve the name for 24 hours before it releases it to the pool of available names.
I played an Asura Necromancer. Depending on how you customize the Asura, they can look like anything from Yoda to Dobby to Gollum to E.T. I went for the Yoda look, complete with white hair and brown & grey robes. Didn’t like how you are forced to have face paint at the end of character creation, so I picked the one that looked the least hideous.
Questing --------------------------------------- Having come from WoW, I REALLY enjoyed the questing mechanics in GW2. Dynamic events made the world seem vibrant and alive (as opposed to the static world of WoW, where quest-givers wait passively with exclamation marks over their heads for you to activate them).
I also liked the variety of quests; rather than the tedious “fetch or kill X” ones, I was playing robot-chess, defending a laboratory from waves of invaders, testing an experimental staff (with hilarious results), and trying to jump/climb up the side of a wall to reach a vista.
The personal storyline was entertaining, and gave the game the flavor of a first person RPG such as Deus Ex. It was nice feeling like a character in a story, instead of some guy walking around doing random favors for colorless NPC’s. The cutscenes were well-placed, and weren’t so long as to become annoying. Having Felicia Day voice one of the NPC’s was a stroke of genius on the part of NCSoft.
Controls --------------------------------------- The controls felt tight and responsive. I never felt as if I had to fight them in order to get my character to do what I wanted when I wanted. I also like it that you are limited to 10 active skills, as it limits the distance your fingers must travel on the keyboard in order to activate them.
Jumping puzzles --------------------------------------- Initially, I thought I would hate the jumping puzzles (probably because I’ve always been lousy at them on console games). But after trying and getting used to the mechanics, I actually found myself liking it. IMHO, these puzzles add a new dimension to MMO’s, and provide a refreshing change of pace. Also, the feeling that resulted from FINALLY figuring out the correct path to reach my first vista in the Asura starting zone was immensely satisfying.
Graphics & artwork --------------------------------------- As my graphics card is 3 years old, I played on medium settings. Despite not being able to experience the game in its full visual glory, it ran silky smooth and looked gorgeous. The art design and attention to detail in the Asura starting area was impressive, and there were several times I found myself just stopping to look around and enjoy the view. I’m grateful that NCSoft spent the time and effort in making the gameworld look good, as this really adds to the sense of immersion.
Issues & areas of improvement --------------------------------------- For some reason, the autoattack on my staff wasn’t working. I verfied that the #1 ability was set to autocast, but still had to manually press the key to activate it. Autoattack did work fine for my scepter and axe, so not sure if this is a bug, or if I was doing something wrong (anyone have the answer to this?)
The game hung twice, and I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL to kill and restart the client. I have the most recent video drivers for my ATI Radeon HD5850 (from now on, I’m sticking with nVidia, as I’ve never had this problem with their cards). It could be that the card was getting too hot, and I need to clean the dust filters on my PC to improve the airflow. If it is a driver issue, I hope that either ATI or NCSoft can resolve it soon.
In dynamic events, there was so much going on visually that it was difficult to discriminate the individual parts. I used the tab key to cycle between mobs, as clicking on them would have been well-nigh impossible. For release, I plan to turn down the spell effect in the graphics options, just so that I can see things.
I wish that you could use the shift/alt/ctrl keys in setting up keybindings. This would allow me to use the 1 – 5 keys (in combination with shift) for all 10 of the active skills. Fortunately, I have a Logitech mouse with extra buttons that I can map to keys 6 – 0.
I never could find the Asura vendor for underwater weapons. Anyone know where he is? I would like to see a feature that would help you find vendors for specific items without having to go to the web.
Note that these are all small nitpicks in what was otherwise a fantastic gaming experience. I’m so grateful that GW2 wasn’t even on my radar until last week, and that I now only have to wait 3 more days for release. I look forward to meeting each of you, and playing both PvE and PvP in the company of fellow guildies.

I did update the C3 server info thread with the password but I think I could have done a better job communicating that change. I had received several comments to pwd protect it and had some time yesterday to do so. Did you get everything squared away?

I've seen screenshots on Reddit where skills were labeled S-1, S-2, etc for Shift key combos. Is this no longer the case?

I've seen screenshots on Reddit where skills were labeled S-1, S-2, etc for Shift key combos. Is this no longer the case? It is possible that someone changed the keybindings to Shift+#'s, but it is not standard. They are originally bound to 1-0, with most classes having at least a F1 skill some F1-F4(maybe a F5, i forget).
