The main goal of Smoke & fire is to build a community of likeminded mates who, because of all the responsibilities that life throws at us, realize that time spent in an online game should be enjoyed, not be a chore, and most of all be drama-free! To this end we have a strong community of mature, helpful, and friendly mates. The Smoke & Fire was born out of the frustrations we found at the time when the majority of guilds were stuck on major power trips, took themselves WAY too seriously, and boasted lofty time commitments. SaF was kind of our way of giving them the finger so to speak. Our motto has always been “ No Reqs, No Worries!” We are always looking for likeminded mates who fit our atmosphere. If what you see in us strikes a chord with you, read the FAQ below, reply to this thread to let us know a little about yourself, and then consider yourself a member of the Smoke & Fire! ( NOTE: see the Q&A below on how to receive a guild invite) SMOKE & FIRE FAQ:What server is Smoke & Fire's home world?BORLIS PASSHow big will we allow Smoke & Fire to become?I never want SaF to be a guild of cliques that is so big it is hard for people to fit in. I want people to feel accepted and find it easy to get to know us. So far, we have more than accomplished that I think! As far as hard size numbers, I would like to see anywhere from 25-50 guildies on at any given time so that we have plenty to group with and help each other out. That said, I never want to turn away folks who we know are a good fit into Smoke & Fire (again, reference our main goal above). Because of that, we always accept new members as long as they fit in. Bad apples will be removed asap. How do I become an officer? Our original members like Morg, Wraithguard, Dritt, ToE, and Horace will be made officers immediately. I have several of you in mind that are new to us that I will make officers of the guild as well. Our officers will be here to help me facilitate guild events and help keep an eye on things like sending invites and kicking bad apples. How will bad apples be dealt with?Quickly and efficiently by either myself or an officer. They will be removed both from the guild in game and these forums (ip ban, email ban, etc.). I don't like letting things like this drag out, so if someone is not a good fit it's better for all parties if they are removed quickly. How do you define a bad apple?Anyone who constantly causes strife, argues with others, berates others, and who does not treat everyone with respect. We'll know them when we see them. How will our guild influence be spent?Honestly... I don't know! I haven't spent enough time in the guild upgrade menus to have a good feel for them. I guess I should study them over. I am open to suggestion here. I know that guild storage will be a priority. Since we are not a competitive pvp guild, the Art of War tree will likely be less used. How do I get an invite into the guild? The easiest way is to whisper "/w" the GW2 character game of either myself or any of our officers listed below! Who are our guild officers? *** Forum Name / GW2 name ***Smoke & Fire FounderLoggahead / FaranSmoke & Fire Generals (Global Mod permissions) - All of our elder SaFers Morgwath / Morgwath Drittunge / Tyrfingr Hardrada Wraithguard / Myrddin Solus Horace TheTo3 / TheToeSmoke & Fire Officers: (Moderator permissions) - Officers that are not elders... yet. I have seen alot of great input on the forums so far and that is great.
I would just like to see our guild and guildie's set the standard on how a great guild acts, treats and helps any and all.

I know that I'm pretty excited to play with you all - and I feel really good about the overall feel of the people in this guild already. It seems like we have alot of the same goals in mind, and I think as long as that keeps up- things will be great However, for when it doesnt and we have someone we think should move on, do we have a set process for this? Like a vote between the officers...who gets to break the news and such? btw - i think the forums here work great so far - nothing flashy, but have done the job. Once the game gets started, do you see us switching to one which has a calander feature to help schedule events (if we plan to do so)?

In the past, I simply clicked the kick button on them with a simple "you're not our type". Obviously, I'll need the officers to help with this in case Im not on. My gut has always been to severe the relationship quickly and not let it drag out too much? On Calendars, The good news is that we have one! Up at the top, there is a Calendar button. Currently the only things scheduled are the Headstart and the official Launch.

oO - we do have a calendar button! I would say an officer vote - then the boot. depending on the situation - sometimes they got a probationary period. Good news is - we dont have to deal with loot whores

Good news is - we dont have to deal with loot whores Jade, I completely agree with you; in past experience with WoW, loot whores seemed to be the most common source of drama within the guild. I'm VERY glad that GW2 emphasizes player skill over obtaining the uber-loot, and that there is no need to argue over boss loot drops.

I've been able to avoid games with Loot Whores in it for a few years. I remember dealing with them on DAOC. The big thing I dislike is beggars. It's one thing if you are short of supplies and ask a guildie for help. That I can abide by because that is guildies helping guildies. But I can't stand people who do nothing but beg for money and loot. They won't go out an earn it, they expect it to be given to them by someone else. I found money and loot are easy to acquire both in GW2. Just go out and hunt. Not like you need the absolute best armor and equipment to farm. The starter junk is perfect from the beginning and all sorts of new items drop that can be used.
Sorry for the mini rant, just hate beggars. And don't even get me started on gold sellers and leveling services.

If u have waited for 5 years for this game and won't spend time to find your own loot ( so many ways), then u simply are an idiot and should be sent back to WOW immediately.

I just wanted to say that I love the mantra of the guild and more importantly the people that have flocked to SaF. I think having the causal atmosphere is above all the best thing for a guild however, having that causal atmosphere coupled with guildies who do want to put time into exploring PvE content, and creating a name for SaF in WvWvW/sPvP, I think makes the success of this guild that much better. Win or lose, as long as you have fun along the way, you will always come out a winner (that being said, I do have fun winning ).

I was in a guild for almost a year and I already feel closer to the people in this guild and I haven't even been here for a month. We have some very good people here. I'm glad I found this guild.
Just a quick question, will there be an inactive policy? If a person hasn't been on in say a month, will they be kicked?

Just a quick question, will there be an inactive policy? If a person hasn't been on in say a month, will they be kicked? I hope it is longer than that if at all. I have health issues which in the future might result in my absence for over a month. Would hate to come back and find myself guildless.

The casual nature of the guild is something I really like as well, and as I said to Loggahead last night, I'm surprised we don't have any bad apples yet. Like, nobody at all. No one calling each other names or slyly making fun of others' in the guild. No gossip or behind-the-back speaking. Everyone pretty friendly and respectful. I hope we will be able to keep it that way, it's good to see that we have a zero tolerance policy for insulting other guild members. I'm excited to hop into game and start forming all sorts of groups for exploration, dungeons, dynamic events, WvWvW, and whatever other crazy stuff we get into.

Well a lot of the respect and friendliness is coming from having a lot of older members. Wait until we start wrangling in the early teens.

Got one in her early teens that has been told to be respectful or else I will thump her on the head. So no need to worry about her causing drama.

I ould say as far as being absent from the game for along period of time...aslong as someone knows that you are out or you have posted on forums then i see no reason for kicking someone out of the guild for being absent. Now for the recruiting people in game i am kinda on the side for it. Reason being people will guild jump and some do not want to do anything else with a guild except be in the game. No reason to have everyone able to recruit, i mean we have 75+ people in the guild and game has not even started. I guess what i am asking , How big of a guild do we/you want to have?

Pretty sure logga has answered this question and I believe recruitment will be put on hold the moment we see a drift in the guild mates (i.e. cliques being formed, people being left out of events on a regular basis, etc.) Mainly, I assume, he doesn't want to put a cap on how many people we have as to not recruit members that fit well with SaF solely based on capacity requirements.

Another of my 2 coppers being thrown...just love throwing coppers around!
We all know that the Guild Cap size is dependent upon coin. 0-50 = 1 silver, 50-100 = 1 silver, 100-200 = 10 silver and etc.. So based upon our total numbers as of today it will take 2 silver [dang no coppers ] for 100 members. That should be very easy to acquire in a short time by Logga and officers. The 10 silver needed for the next expansion to 200 members will take a small effort by everyone to pool the coin required. Which I am happy to donate. My question as my memory seems to have failed me today is..... I am understanding that when you are invited into a Guild that all your toons are invited too. Now does this count against the cap size? Or do you only account for one Guild member even if I have 4 Alts? If your Alts also count as a Guild Member for Cap size then we will need a 500 member Guild (cost 4 gold, 12 silver). Cause I know there are other "Alt-aholics" like me out there. Guild Influence, my first thought as Logga suggested is in the "Architecture Tree". From what I can gather it will cost 1500-2000 Influence to be able to build the "Guild Stash", which grants access to a 50 slot Guild Vault and also allow Gold storage too. I will be throwing my "Tome of Influence" towards that endeavor. Bad Apples, I am afraid are always in every barrel. It all depends upon the situation on how to deal with them. No one could ever write down every single situation and if they were capable it would take years/lifetime to write let alone read. I am putting my trust into the Officers of the Guild to be able to handle each situation as they arise. Which could be quick and harsh or lengthy in nature. The site has evolved since I have been here and it will evolve more when the game begins. You and the gang are doing a great job!
