Currently plan to play a guardian, since I like how they're kind of a support class. The ranger looks interesting too and I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
Recurve: Nope, no healer class, though several classes do seem to have some healing ability like guardians and elementalists. I think the idea is to have everyone supporting each other, rather than one guy supporting everyone.

i discovered quickly as a thief to make sure I was paying attention to my own health and where i was in the fight so i didnt die fast. having no healer to back me up makes me pay attention! but once i got the hang of it, i didnt die much unless i aggro'd more mobs than intended

i really do like that they have mostly gotten rid of dedicated rolls. palyed with so many terrible gamers that all they knew was how to dps and didnt bother paying attention to what was going on, just depended on healers and tanks to save their bacon. GW2 is gonna force people to pay attention and save their own skins most of the time. and just for the record im not saying there is anything wrong with being sucky at a game, everyone sucks when they start just hopefully you eventually get better lol. what urks me is when people just stick to what they know and dont bother to learn how to be a better player

Mesmer seems overly complicated and not much punch for what it takes. But thats my 2cents. Im going to roll a guardian cause i always roll a tank job and i love it! Yes there does seem to be a slightly larger learning curve because it isn't like any other class. However I've seen some pretty interesting builds, including a condition/illusion-based tank build. Haha yes Logga! As soon as I saw the purple I was sold, but for others it is like a red cape waving at bulls. I have to say I am very happy that there aren't any "healer" classes anymore. Now you have to carefully choose how much heal/support you want. It'll make for a much more interesting game.

I think the 55 monks in GW killed the healer class.

While there is no healer class certain ones do have heals that affect groups. All classes have at least a self heal but I know the engineer has an elixer that he can throw to heal aoe, and the guardian has several group healing spells. And I think you can place your talent points to make a character a better support. But everything is supposed to be doable with an ALL DPS party. There is a video ( HERE ) that talks about the trinity being dead (trinity being Tank, Heal, DPS) and how they cleared the Catacombs with 5 dps. The purple on the mesmer doesn't bother me anymore, since you can dye your stuff whatever you want right from the start anyway. I like mesmer and it will be one of my first alts. But i'll let you be the first one, since i'm the only one who put down necromancer i'll stick with it. lol

Thanks for the link morg, was an interesting little video but I actually enjoyed reading most of those comments. There was quite a little debate going back and forth. One side saying the 'holy trinity' is lazy game design and a crutch for both designers and gamers. The other side saying the trinity is at the very core of RGP's and abandoning it for GW2's dynamic skill based play style will end up being its downfall.
Though I don't think the person making the second argument really understood how GW2 combat works. Nor did he seem to understand that MMO's are starting to stagnate and developers are basically just copying what the know works, ie. WoW.
Someone else also mentioned something about AreaNet being started by former blizzard employees that had "creative differences". They started AreaNet with the goal in mind of creating something that was their own and not just following what had been tried and tested. And that to me is a definite sign of people who know how to make a good game!

I still have no clue what I will play. Didn't help that I got ZERO chance to play during the BWEs. I'll see how things pan out once I get a real chance to see the skills. I will miss my monk from GW though

Surprised that the engineer has the most so far. I have to take another look at him for my alt. Tried him first but didn't think he had enough weapon choices but I guess he was better than I thought

Tried him first but didn't think he had enough weapon choices but I guess he was better than I thought I thought that exact same thing after my first look at engineer, but then i realized that most of your utility skills let you swap your weapon with something like a flamethrower or a grenade kit or bomb kit or a freaking mortar!!! That is what sold me on the engineer but not everyone jump on that bandwagon, I'd very much like it to be one of just a handful of engineers in Smoke&Fire ;D roll a thief we can always use more of those

I actually had a dream last night that I had a boxed copy of GW2 and I couldn't open it. The packaging was like solid steel. It was pretty inconsistent with real life because I've pre-purchased the digital edition, so when I play it it'll be online. That'll show those tricky box packagers. Trying to ruin my gaming experience by somehow hardening cardboard to un-openable levels. I remember the words, "Asura mesmer" repeating over and over in the dream. I think we all need help.

we have an epidemic starting!!! *runs away screaming* It starts off with Dan casually posting in a GW2 forum, but soon we will all be transformed into that guy doing coordinated dances to the charr and norn theme music.
