I know there are at least a few other people interested in the elementalist profession so I wanted to create a thread where we could talk about things like weapon choice and traits. Personally I am interested in two weapon choices with with my play style. For group combat I am thinking staff for more ranged/support utility however in the betas I found that I really liked the dagger for close combat while focusing on earth attunement for the bleeds and added protection. As for traits I am really having a hard time deciding where to put my main 30 points. All of the lines look awesome, for solo I really like earth but for group I love water because of the +healing. What is everybody else thinking?

I love playing as an elementalist. During the first two betas, I liked using the staff because of the ranged damage and AoE it had. Also, I thought it had good healing spells under the water spells. Although, I heard a lot of people say they liked dual daggers. I'll have to check it out at some point.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be making a support elementalist sylvari as an alt. Does anyone happen to know what is the best choice of element and weapon for having such a combination. I've heard that with the right combination elementalists can practically become small healers in addition to damage dealers. Any suggestions?

Yeah... Be a ranger instead. Elementalists are all flash and no bang, almost as bad as the thief (which is the worst profession ever!) *runs away and tries to find a ranger forum to hide behind* (I'm only kidding - I do that a lot btw, in case you hadn't noticed... Though thieves are still not as good as a ranger... at anything! Hah)

I like classes that do all of their damage on their own. Though I guess that sounds a little hypocritical considering the images that a mesmer uses. I'm contemplating being a support elementalist, however. Either that or a fire elementalist, because that dragon's tooth spell and the flaming phoenix spell are both pretty darn awesome. Also, I've figured out you're one to kid frequently from your friendly prods with Jade. Having a sense of humor is important

Orion, they should make a new class all for you... The Jester (anyone remember the original Mesmer reveal with the Jester?)

I was just watching the same video a few minutes ago. Can't wait for the character expansion "I may be drunk, but im the morning I'll be sober and you'll still be ugly!" - Winston Churchill

Go staff water elementalist with a full 30 traits in water and at least 10 in arcana and choose either lightning or fire magic for additional damage or condition effect respectively.. Although as a support elementalist (which is also my plan for grouping) earth magic would be good for the additional protection to yourself and others

Dual daggers is really fun, it takes some getting used to, being up close as a squishy class and all. I did love the fire attunement spells for dual daggers. Also having a frontal ate breath spell for every attunement is fantastic

I'm looking to be a jack of all trades elementalist, if this is possible lol
Ive seen so many builds for this character already its insane. Healers focus on water, tanks on earth, and dps on fire. I don't want to play a WOW style, but I think as the game grows and WvWvW becomes insane, there will have to be some of those builds being used.
As for Pve, I'm going to try everything. Remember, its an 80 level cap, so we'll have the time to try them all out. The traits are tough. My solo play is fire/lighting to max dps and move around alot (Ride the Lighting rules) I was never a huge healer player so water will be the least impt for me. Earth is good for protection but with an elementalist because of low health and low armor, I'd rather be quicker than stronger.

I definitely see your point kassats, I'm looking at a more dps heavy build for solo play but I have been primarily a healer in every mmo I have ever played so water has a huge appeal to me. Plus the big boost to health helps mitigate some damage

I definitely want at least one support character, buffing up other members of the group and preventing us from meeting an untimely death is something that water elementalists with a touch of earth might be good at.

Like I said, this profession is so open to choices it insane. Just to be able to switch around and try everything sets this game apart from anything out there. 11 days!!!

I think elementalist might be my 2nd alt, I usually play the typical elemental mage class first. Mesmer is just too enticing for me, however.
